How to participate

PARTICIPATE

Any university or college student, in any discipline. No prior knowledge of aviation or of ICAO is required.

Who can come

You come as part of a delegation — a group from one or several institutions, six students minimum, maximum 11 per delegation. Your delegation is assigned a State. It is the delegation’s responsibility to assign students to the various committees and the Council. A delegation may represent 1 to 3 member states of the council, as long as it has at least 6 students per represented state.

If you are fewer than six, or on your own, write to us. We can often attach individual participants to an existing delegation.

Six steps

Register online — One registration per delegation. You give us your institution, the size of your group, and your preferences for States. We take them into account without being able to guarantee them.
Pay the deposit — Your places are held once the deposit is received.
Receive your State — We assign States when we build the delegations, balancing regions, positions, and the size of each group.

4. Prepare — Background guides are published several months ahead. You research your State’s positions.

5. Submit your position paper — It is circulated to every delegation before the event.

6. Come to Montreal — See Coming to Montreal for accommodation and transport.

If you need a visa

We issue invitation letters to participants who require one — after the deposit has been received, never before.

The rule is firm and it is not aimed at you. Invitation letters from an event held at ICAO carry weight, and that is exactly why they have been misused in the past. Requiring the deposit first is what allows us to keep issuing them at all.
We cannot defer payment or make exceptions, but we can help in other ways: guidance on your application, and, where useful, contact with your State’s representation to ICAO. Write to us early — visa timelines are the most common reason a delegation does not make it.

In registering for Model ICAO, the institution and individual members of our delegation acknowledge there are risks involved in participation and release Model ICAO and its officers, employees, partners, and volunteers from any and all liability for damages which result to individuals or their property from such risks. In checking the box above, you also acknowledge that Model ICAO advises you to work with your university’s off-campus study office and follow their recommendations particularly those regarding immunizations and insurance (including trip cancellation and emergency evacuation insurance). Participants further consent to the use of their photo/image in Model ICAO promotional materials. The individual completing this application form is responsible for informing their delegates of the requirements of this waiver.
